Cross-Platform Development: Web vs Native vs Hybrid

“Should we build native, web or hybrid?” is one of the first questions clients ask us at Hirodots, the software development company we run from Lusail, Qatar. The honest answer is that it depends entirely on the job — and three of our projects, built for very different clients across three continents, show exactly why there is no single right answer.

When is native the right call?

Sometimes the job demands the full power of the device. SKODA iMDES is an internal iOS and Android tool we built for Skoda Auto’s manufacturing operations in Europe, used on the factory floor to measure car parts, log defects, capture and annotate photos, and decide whether a part goes back to production or is scrapped. That kind of camera-heavy, performance-critical, always-reliable tool is exactly where native development earns its keep.

The iMDES app developed by Hirodots transformed the way Skoda Auto manage their operations. Its clean design, ease of use and powerful functionality helped the teams work more efficiently and make better-informed decisions — an excellent combination of user experience and business value.

When does cross-platform win?

For consumer apps that need to reach everyone quickly, sharing a codebase across iOS and Android is often the smarter path. Our Hairaholic booking app and Heronys valet platform both ship to iOS, Android and an admin dashboard, giving their businesses full coverage without building and maintaining two entirely separate products.

Where does the web still fit best?

Not everything belongs in an app store. The management dashboards behind platforms like Xionys and LKH live on the web, where there is nothing to install, complex data has room to breathe on a large screen, and updates reach every user instantly. Often the best answer is a mix — a native or cross-platform app for the field, a web dashboard for the office.

How do we choose for each client?

We match the technology to the goal, the users and the context — a consumer in Doha tapping through a booking flow has very different needs from an inspector on a European production line. That judgement, earned across more than 143 projects, is what we bring to every build. If you are weighing native, web or hybrid for your product, let’s talk it through: [email protected].
